Then watch the level meter while a tone plays. If it's moving but you still hear silence, the tone is being generated fine and the problem sits downstream of the browser: output routing, a muted system, or a loose cable.

Why can't I hear anything, even though the level meter is moving?

That meter shows the signal your browser is generating, measured before it ever reaches your operating system or your hardware. A moving meter with no sound means the tone is correct and the browser did its job. From there, check your system volume, confirm the right output device is selected, and check the physical connection.

Why do I only hear sound from one speaker?

Run the Left and Right buttons separately to isolate each channel. If only one side comes through, check that speaker's or earbud's connection first, then make sure your OS balance setting hasn't drifted to one side.

Why does the left/right test sound the same in both speakers?

Some operating systems ship a "Mono Audio" accessibility setting that merges both channels into one signal, which quietly defeats the whole point of this test. If left and right sound identical, check your OS accessibility or sound settings for a mono toggle before assuming your speakers are fine.

The tone tests check specific pitches and channel separation: a 440 Hz reference tone plus dedicated bass, mid, and treble checks. The noise burst instead fires pink noise across the entire audible range at once, which is better at catching a dead or rattling speaker register that a single clean pitch might slip right past.
