Do I need to download or install anything?

No. Everything runs in this browser tab, so there's nothing to install and nothing left behind when you close it.

Does this tool upload or store what's on my screen?

Accepted Answer

No. Your screen is only previewed in this browser tab. This tool doesn't even have a server to upload to, so there's nothing for your screen content to be sent to in the first place. Closing this tab discards everything.

Why does my browser ask me to choose what to share every single time?

That's by design, not a bug in this tool: browsers deliberately never remember or skip this choice for screen sharing, no matter which site is asking. It's actually a good thing: no website, including this one, can ever start capturing your screen without you actively picking something first.

Why does nothing happen when I click Start Test, or why does my browser say screen recording is blocked?

On a Mac, screen sharing needs a separate, OS-level permission for your browser, on top of anything the browser itself asks. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, turn it on for your browser, then fully quit and reopen the browser before trying again.

Why is part of my screen black when I share it?

Accepted Answer

Two real causes are far more common than a broken tool: DRM-protected video (Netflix, Prime Video, and similar) is blocked from being captured by design, so that portion of the screen shows up black no matter what you share it with. The other common cause, especially on a Mac, is the same Screen Recording permission mentioned above. If it was only just granted, fully quitting and reopening your browser usually clears it up.

Why isn't there an option to share audio, or why can't people hear sound from my screen?

It depends on what you choose to share. Sharing a browser tab supports audio everywhere; sharing a window or your entire screen supports system audio on some operating systems and browsers but not all of them yet. If the other person needs to hear sound from your screen, share a browser tab and enable the "share audio" option when your browser asks.

Does this work on mobile?

No. That's a genuine limitation of the browser feature this tool relies on, not something we chose to leave out. No mobile browser, on iPhone or Android, currently supports screen sharing from a web page. Test from a desktop browser instead: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari all work.

Can I use this to check my screen share before a Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams call?

Yes, and that's exactly what it's built for. It uses the same underlying browser feature every video-call app uses to share your screen, so if it works and looks right here, it'll work the same way on the call.

Why can't I select this page itself when I choose what to share?

This tool deliberately leaves its own tab out of the list, the same way Zoom, Meet, and Teams do. Picking it would only ever show an endless mirror of this preview inside itself, which proves nothing about whether sharing actually works.

What's the difference between sharing my screen, a window, and a tab?

Accepted Answer

Entire screen shares everything on your display, including anything you switch to afterward. A window shares just one application, even if you click elsewhere. A browser tab shares just that one tab's content, and it's the only option with broad, reliable audio support. Most video calls work best with a single window or tab, so only what you mean to show is visible.

Can I check the actual video quality or bitrate my screen share would use?

Yes. The bitrate figure is measured live from your own browser's video encoder through a connection that never leaves your device, so it's the real number, not an estimate: the same figure a video-call app's encoder would actually produce for the same content.

Can I save a screenshot of what I'm about to share?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Click "Save screenshot" and the current frame saves as a PNG straight to your device. The capture happens entirely in your browser, so nothing passes through a server on the way.
